German-Romanian baritone Konstantin Krimmel has won First Prizes and Audience Prizes at a number of competitions. In 2019 he was the laureate of the German National Music Competition (Deutscher Musikwettbewerb), and has also won First Prizes at the International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition, as well as at the International Haydn Competition for Classical Song and Aria in Rohrau. Krimmel has won Second Prizes at the International Song Competition “Das Lied” in Heidelberg and at the Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition.
Born in 1993, Konstantin Krimmel began his musical training as a member of the boys’ choir at the St. George Parish Church in Ulm. Until 2020 he studied voice with Prof. Teru Yoshihara in Stuttgart.
Krimmel has been an exclusive Alpha Label artist since 2019, when his first CD, “Saga”, was released to international acclaim. In the summer of 2020 he will give his début performance at the Schubertiade in Hohenems, followed by invitations to perform at Wigmore Hall in London and at Frankfurt Opera.
A multitude of previous vocal recitals at venues including Banz Cloister, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bavarian Academy of the Arts, Konzerthaus Berlin, Heidelberg Spring Festival, Schubertiada Barcelona, Tetbury Music Festival, and the Oxford Lieder Festival testify to this young baritone’s exceptional qualities.
On the opera stage he has covered the roles of Roberto/Nardo (in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera), Zoroastro (in Handel’s Orlando) and Leporello (in Mozart’s Don Giovanni). He recently sang the role of Jesus in a staged performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passionconducted by Konrad Junghänel at Wiesbaden Opera, and will return to perform there this season in the role of Mozart’s Figaro.
In the concert hall, Konstantin Krimmel recently thrilled London audiences in Handel’s Brockes Passion with the Arcangelo Ensemble and Jonathan Cohan, and performed in Haydn’s L’anima del filosofoin Eisenstadt with the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic conducted by Enrico Onofri. He has also sung Bach cantatas with the Berlin RIAS Chamber Choir under Justin Doyle. Planned tours for 2021 include collaborations with the Netherlands Chamber Choir under Peter Dijkstra, as well as with Basel Chamber Orchestra and René Jacobs.
